Artist StatementFundamentally, I am interested in questioning the basis for our values, our freedom/s, our knowledge and self worth. My work draws on questions surrounding the human condition, society, identity, and the underlying complex dialogue between these finely intertwined mechanisms.
I deliberately use sub-aesthetic and found materials in an overt manner to call into question the traditional hierarchies and distinctions between art mediums, aesthetics, and our common associations with the nature of materials, and their industrial origins. My inspiration is chiefly drawn from nature, the archetypes of social realism, and the energetic calligraphy of street art, the human form, contemporary society, and our everyday surroundings. HistoryBorn in Poland and based in Queensland, my studies spanned the two places, to achieve a skilled balance of classical craftsmanship and contemporary education. After completing a Certificate of Art and Design at the Gateway TAFE in Brisbane, with a high distinction, I also completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts from the Queensland University of Technology. Subsequently relocating to Kraków, I completed a Masters with Distinction at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts, Faculty of Sculpture. |
