Memories Installation
In Memories Cezary Stulgis recreates the interior of an abandoned home, referencing the 1940's houses of war-torn Poland. Intended to capture the essence of everyday people surviving the harsh realities of war, Memories speaks of the abrupt and lasting changes caused by the Second World War.
A sense of honour pervades this installation as layers of significant objects retrace personal history. Memories recalls a time when resistance fighters camouflaged themselves with enemy uniforms, struggling to survive alongside ordinary people, by seeking food and temporary shelter in the remains of deserted homes.
The installation incorporates found and printed materials to blur distinctions between art mediums, familiar associations and origins. This installation delivers insight into the events of another time and place in an artwork that resonates with present day relevance.
